Schools Enhance Safety for Back to School

By Campus Contingency

As schools across the country prepare for or start the new school year, administrators and staff look to strengthen partnerships with local authorities, enhance their school security programs and plans to ensure a safe and productive environment for students.

Officials say the start of a new school year can be a vulnerable time for school safety. According to a 2021 study from the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center, perpetrators of acts of school violence often choose dates around the start or end of school breaks.

Many systems have added school safety or mental health personnel and have increased pay and benefits for School Resource Officers, while others have installed and implemented new security features, policies, plans and systems for their campuses and facilities.
