$34.6 Million School Safety Grant Awarded to El Paso School District

By Sara Graves

In response to new school safety mandates issued by the Texas legislature beginning in 2019, the Texas legislature has awarded the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) a $34.6 million grant, making the school district the second-largest recipient of such funding.

The grant, which is part of the Safety and Facilities Enhancement (SAFE) program, will enable EPISD to upgrade its safety infrastructure in accordance with the 2019 state-mandated requirements of House Bill 3 that highlighted the need for safe and conducive learning environments for both staff and students.

EPISD plans to apply for a second round of funding in 2024.
