BTS Webinar to Focus on School Safety

By Jennifer Williams

A free back-to-school webinar focusing on federal school safety training, technical assistance, and resources available to kindergarten through grade 12 (K-12) schools and school districts will be held Thursday, August 17, at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

The session will focus specifically on information related to school safety, school climate, and student mental health support. This event is part of the School Safety Webinar Series, a program hosted by the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse, an interagency effort among the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, and Justice, to address emerging risks and threats facing the K-12 school community.

The series covers a range of school safety topics and provides information on the resources, tools, and best practices available to equip school leaders with a set of strategies in creating safer and more resilient school systems.

The presentation will include information about the U.S. Department of Education’s Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Technical Assistance Center, the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments, and the Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports; the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Center for School Safety; and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health.

Guest speakers will provide an overview of their offerings and how they support members of the K-12 community. The discussion will also include a Q&A session for participants.

Registrants can include specifics questions to be addressed during the webinar as time allows, and can suggest topics for future webinars through SchoolSafety.gov.

The webinar will be hosted through Webex, and an access link will be provided to those registered one day in advance of the event.

Pre-registration is required, as the webinar has limited spaces available. Visit www.schoolsafety.gov for more information and to register.
