Nominations Open for SRO Awards

The National Association of School Resource Officers will recognize exemplary School Resource Officers and school-based policing at their upcoming National School Safety Conference.

Nominations are open for several awards to be presented at the 2024 NASRO Conference, to be held July 14-19 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Awards include:

  • Floyd Ledbetter School Resource Officer of the Year Award

  • Chief Nick Derzis Safe School Leadership Award

  • Regional Exceptional Service Award

  • National Award of Valor

  • NASRO Social Media SRO Award

  • Safety and Support Companion Award

The Chief Nick Derzis Safe School Leadership Award is presented to those individuals who are willing to support and further develop the SRO partnership, and exemplify leadership, innovation, dedication, and proactive measures to enhance the safety of the school community.

The National Award of Valor is given for a single act of courage and valor, above and beyond that expected of normal incidents/actions of an SRO/school staff member.

Regional Exceptional Service awards are presented to those individuals for continuous and sustained service to the school community above and beyond that expected of a normal SRO or school staff member.

Model Agency awards are presented to agencies that exemplify the NASRO Triad model, training, policies, and standards with a creative and innovative approach to school-based policing.

New this year is the Safety and Support Companion Award, which recognizes a School Resource Officer and their companion (animal) who, through their roles as public safety educator, mentor/informal counselor, and law enforcement officer, make a significant positive and impactful contribution to schools. Nominations need to be accompanied by certifications and training on how the animal creates a supportive environment that significantly contributes to the emotional well-being of the school community, along with examples, stories, and photographs to show the relationships being built in the school between the animal and students.

Two awards are open to those who have already completed the NASRO Basic SRO course. The Floyd Ledbetter National School Resource Officer of the Year Award recognizes an SRO that has made a specific and significant contribution to their local town, city, county, and/or school district. Honorees are nominated by their peers, supervisors, school/school district, students, and faculty. The SRO Social Media Award recognizes an officer who most effectively utilizes social media to promote the position of SRO, school, and department.

Nominations will close April 8, 2024. Visit www.NASRO.org for more information or to complete a nomination.
